Flooded Cemeteries in Pampanga and Bulacan Pose Challenges Ahead of Undas 2023

With Undas 2023, also known as All Saints’ Day, just two weeks away, several cemeteries in Pampanga and Bulacan are still inundated.

In Masantol, Pampanga, personnel at Sta. Elena Memorial Park have laid down cut grass for visitors to walk on to reach the tombs of their departed loved ones, as reported by James Agustin on Unang Balita.

The Santa Iglesia Katoliko Public Cemetery in Masantol is also experiencing flooding, a recurring issue every year as All Saints’ Day approaches.

Consequently, some residents opt to light candles at home in memory of their deceased loved ones instead of visiting the flooded cemeteries.

In Macabebe, Pampanga, the persistent flooding has led to the postponement of tomb cleaning activities. Meanwhile, in Obando, Bulacan, some residents are braving the floods, caused by rains and high tide, to clean tombs in preparation for the commemoration.

All Saints’ Day, celebrated on November 1, is a special non-working day in the Philippines, allowing people to visit and honor the tombs of their departed loved ones.

The day is marked with both solemn and joyful activities, including attending Mass and other church services, lighting candles, and offering prayers.
