TotalEnergies partners with RSC to Establish Philippines’ Largest Rooftop Solar System

TotalEnergies ENEOS, based in Singapore, is set to establish the Philippines’ most expansive rooftop solar photovoltaic system, bolstering Real Steel Corp. (RSC) in its pursuit to pioneer a greener shift in steel production.

The 16.8-megawatt-peak solar system will be situated atop RSC’s production center in San Simon, Pampanga.

This initiative aims to substantially cut both operational costs and the carbon footprint of the country’s premier high-speed rolling mill.

The endeavor will see over 22,000 solar panels being installed. These are projected to produce 26,000 megawatt-hours of green energy yearly, trimming RSC’s carbon output by an estimated 12,800 tons of CO2 annually.

While TotalEnergies ENEOS will oversee the system’s maintenance, RSC will assume ownership and operational responsibilities post-commissioning.

TotalEnergies ENEOS’s proposed business strategy guarantees RSC a cash flow equilibrium for the initial decade. Post this period, RSC will fully capitalize on the asset, which has an expected lifespan of roughly 30 years.

Elodie Renaud, the director at TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Distributed Generation Asia, expressed, “Our collaboration with RSC is a testament to our commitment to infusing their operations with sustainable energy. We’re steadfast in our support for RSC’s green strategic investment aligned with the Philippines Development Plan 2023-2028.”

Renaud further highlighted TotalEnergies ENEOS’s dedication to assisting firms like RSC in diminishing energy expenses and carbon emissions through bespoke green solutions.

TotalEnergies ENEOS, a balanced partnership between global energy conglomerate TotalEnergies and Asian energy-materials enterprise ENEOS, pledges to deliver cost-effective, clean energy—a significant driver for the Philippine economy.

Conversely, RSC specializes in producing steel deformed bars. Their state-of-the-art facilities in San Simon are primed for high-grade steel product manufacturing.

RSC’s CFO, William Chen, remarked, “Our commitment lies in championing eco-friendly methodologies in steel production. With the nation under President Marcos emphasizing infrastructure growth, steel demand will surge.”

Chen added, “By integrating the country’s largest rooftop solar system, we’re amplifying our output of eco-friendly, superior steel products for local consumption.”
